Low-level nuclear waste. Barrel of nuclear waste being burnt in an incineration pit. All components used in the nuclear fuel cycle must be disposed of properly, according to their level of radioactivity. This is low-level nuclear waste, which is only slightly radioactive. It is sorted and incinerated or melted down, and then stored in barrels or metal ingots. This is the Centraco factory, in Marcoule, France. Photographed in 2004.
