Wilkins Pleck private garden Stoke on Trent Staffs England UK

6 acres of paradise in North Staffordshire in the true Arts & Crafts Tradition. Wilkins Pleck, described some years ago by a local farmer as the most unproductive piece of land in the area, has now been transformed into six acres of paradise by owners, Sheila and Chris Bissell. A series of enclosed gardens, parterres and yew hedges. Pleached lime avenue. Herbaceous borders which move from cool colours to hot. Pyramidal roofed summerhouse which leads to a more open area around a lake A kaleidoscope of colour and creativity is surrounded completely by the impossibly green pastures of North Staffordshire. The garden`s framework, a strong structure of evergreens, consists of a series of elegantly proportioned rooms, contained within brick walls, tall yew screens, pleached lime avenues, fastigiate hornbeams and low box hedges. The seemingly meticulous plan is filled with formal alleys, classical busts, tumbling fountains, a ruined temple, lakes and graceful curved bridges, which arch over the koi-filled waters, surrounded by a burgeoning arboretum. The whole garden is laced with colour-themed borders which change with the seasons: a paradise indeed!! The Yellow Book ()
