Women seen dressed like showers seen during the event. The traditional “Burial of the Sardine” is a ceremony that takes place in Madrid to mark the end of Carnival celebrations and beginning of 40 days Lent before Easter. It consists of a parade that parodies a funeral in which a symbolic figure in the shape of a sardine is burned. This festivity coincides with Ash Wednesday and symbolizes the burial of the past and the rebirth of society.
