. Very few mirror frames were ornamented with marquetry in the Netherlands around 1700, when gilt or plain wooden frames were far more common. This rare pair seems to constitute an exception to the rule. However, they could also have been made in England, for at this time the work of English and Dutch cabinetmakers was very similar.
