As above stated,he has been frequently honored with election to of-fices of responsibility, and he has served creditablyas postmaster (for fifteen years), supervisor, poordirector, auditor, member of the school committee,and justice of the peace, being first chosen to thelast-named incumbency in 1881, since when hehas acted continuously with the exception of oneterm. He was one of the poor commissioners whoestablished the Auburn and Rush township poor-house, located in Rush township. In 1863 he enlist-ed in the 36th P. V. I. as emergency man, andhelped to clear the battlefield and guard prisoners.
