Plaster cast. X-ray of a plaster cast around a patient's fractured wrist. The fractured bone itself is not clear here. At left, the radius (lower bone) and ulna (upper bone) of the forearm are seen. At centre are the small bones of the wrist (carpals), with the bones of the palm (metacarpals) and fingers (phalanges) at right. Casts are used to immobilise an area, preventing movement and allowing the fractured bone to heal.
