Mani region, Peloponnese, Greece. Maniat "towerhouses" in Vatheia village.

Vatheia is an archetypal village of Mani and probably the most "famous" among the dozens Maniat villages. A fortified settlement, full of beautiful and imposing "towerhouses", typical of the region. Unfortunately the village is almost completely abandoned nowadays, mostly because of a series of lethal vendettas. Many of the towers where renovated in the 80's by the National Organization of Tourism and functioned as guesthouses for some time.
