Travelers along the Interstate 10 freeway east of Los Angeles are surprised to see two huge dinosaurs in the San Gorgonio Pass at Cabazon, California, USA. The roadside attraction features a larger-than-life-sized Apatosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus rex. Sculptor Claude Bell took 11 years to create the larger creature that is 150 feet long and 45 feet tall. The monster opened to the public in 1975, and his prehistoric pal was added in 1981. Both are made of concrete sprayed over metal mesh that is the shape of their bodies and supported by steel beams. New owners spruced up the site in the 1990s.
Sculptor Claude Bell took 11 years to create the larger creature that is 150 feet (46 meters) long and 45 feet (14 meters) tall. The sad-looking monster opened to the public in 1975, and his prehistoric pal was added in 1981. Both are made of concrete sprayed over metal mesh that is the shape of their bodies and supported by structural steel. In the 1990s new owners spruced up the Cabazon Dinosaurs site and it continues to be a kitschy rest stop for tourists. There is free access to park and photograph the two creatures nicknamed Dinny and Mr. Rex. A fee is charged to visit an unexpected creationism museum that is inside the belly of the larger beast.
