Calpol and meningitis B vaccine Bexsero. Packet of Calpol (upper centre) and pre-filled syringes (lower left) of Bexsero. Calpol is a syrup formulation for children. It contains paracetamol, and is used to treat fever and pain associated with colds and flu. Bexsero is the meningococcal vaccine used against meningitis B, a disease caused by serogroup B of the Neisseria meningitidis bacterium. Meningitis is a potentially fatal inflammation of the brain membranes (meninges). This vaccine was developed by Novartis and approved for use in the European Union in January 2013. It was added to the UK childhood immunisation programme from 1 September 2015.
