Loch Doon Castle in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland

Loch Soon Castle in Ayrshire Scotland was probably built in the 1200's by an earl of Carrick – either Robert the Bruce or his father, also called Robert. The eleven-sided curtain walled castle originally stood on an island in Loch Doon. The entire castle was taken down, stone by stone, and re-erected on its present spot (400m south of where it stands now) in 1935, in an effort to save the castle's walls, as water levels were due to rise by a local hydroelectric scheme.
