The Royal Palace Amsterdam, Friday 28th June, 2019. King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands, this afternoon opened the exhibit, The Universe of Amsterdam. Golden Age treasure from cartography. The exhibition focuses on floor maps in the Burgerzaal of the Palace and maps and atlases from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and made in the Dutch city of Amsterdam. The Burgerzaal has some of the largest maps in the world laid out in marble on its floor. Amsterdam was the centre for cartography in the Golden Age. As part of the exhibition and on loan from the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, is one of the largest books in the world, the Atlas of the Great Elector of Brandenburg from around 1665.
