The Commanding General’s 2018 Spring Company Commanders Staff Ride took place over 12-14th March and visited the Historical First World War battle sites around Liege, Belgium and Verdun, France. The Mission of the staff ride was to provide selected Junior Officers a professional development opportunity that was highlighted by senior officer mentoring. During the staff ride participants were able to walk the terrain of actual battle sites to discuss and examine tactical decision making and the evolution of those tactics as the war progressed. Participants also analyzed the American Expeditionary Forces involvement during the war and gained a greater appreciation of the human dimension of soldiering. The sites visited included the forts of Barchon and Douamont as well as war memorials such as Voie Sacree, Montfaucon and Montsec as well as the American Cemeteries.
