A greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis) hibernating in a disused mine in the Harz mountains, Germany. This is an endangered and protected species and although found throughout Europe, it is believed to be extinct in Britain. It has a close association with humans and uses old mines for hibernating and houses for roosting.
