Grenada is one of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles with a wet tropical climate and lush rainforest. It is well known as "Island of Spice" because a lot of spices especially nutmeg growing very well on the rich volcanic soil of the 344 square kilometers of the island. Grenada delivers 20 per cent of nutmeg of the world. Another important agricultural product is sugarcane. The sweet fluid is squeezed off the sugarcane, fermented and distilled to rum. Around 100000 bottles of rum are produced in River Antoine Rum Distillery each year. Die344 Quadratkilometer große Insel St. Lucia gehört zu den Inseln über dem Winden der Kleinen Antillen. Dichter Regenwald wächst nur noch an wenigen Stellen dieser Karibik-Insel. Stattdessen werden auf den reichen vulkanischen Böden Gewürze wie Muskatnüsse, Zimt und Gewürznelken angebaut. Grenada wird daher auch "Gewürzinsel" genannt und liefert 20 Prozent aller Muskatnüsse für den Weltmarkt. Auf der Insel wird aber auch Zuckerrohr angebaut. Aus ihm der der süße Saft gepresst, acht Tage in großen Steinbehältern fermentiert und anschließend zu Rum destilliert. Hunderttausend Flaschen Rum verlassen die River Antoine Rum Destillerie jedes Jahr.
