Herman's Tortoise (Testudo hermanni). Female, having laid a clutch of eggs about to cover them with earth using hind feet.

Hermann's Tortoise (Testudo hermanni). Female laying eggs, 'feeling' for them with a foot and about to scoop surrounding soil to cover them. Note divided two supracaudal plates of carapace, or upper shell, above the tail, indicative of species. A captive bred female, now breeding herself in a private collection.
