St Mark's Clock, Venice, Italy. This clock, seen after its restoration between 1998 and 2006, is on the Torre dell'Orologio (clock tower) in the Piazza San Marco, Venice. It was installed between 1496 and 1499 by the de Ranieris (father and son). Several changes and restorations have been made over the centuries. Here, a 24-hour marble dial (Roman numerals) circles 12 symbols of the zodiac in gilt and blue enamel. The hour hand (Sun) moves slowly around the zodiac circle during the year. The inner circles show stars, globes, and numbers for the phases of the Moon and Sun. The outer edge shows the names of the months.
