Cobles, Beadnell Harbour, Northumberland
The coble is the traditional inshore fishing boat of North East England. Flat-bottomed, high-bowed and without a keel they are designed for launching into the surf from beaches. They often sport a tarpaulin shelter in the bow. Formerly equipped with a lug sail, they are now powered by inboard diesel engines.
