Rue Castiglione, Looking towards the Place Vendome
The view taken in 1828, shows the Rue Castiglione, looking towards the Place Vendome to the column in Place Vendome. The sculptures on the column were by Denon. The Rue is on the site of the convent des Feuillans and received its name from the Battle of Castiglione won by the French over the Austrians under General Wurmser. The Rue de Napoleon, later Rue de la Paix, crosses the Place Vendome as a continuation of Rue Castiglione. The image was drawn by W Price under the direction of A Pugin and engraved by W Faithorn
