The Old Post Office Park Bridge
Park Bridge is about halfway between Ashton-under-Lyne and Oldham. Until 1963, Park Bridge was an ironworks (rivets for the Eiffel Tower were made here). The area is now a combination of restored industrial buildings and remains in a countryside setting. In the Medlock Valley between Ashton and Oldham, Park Bridge was an early industrial settlement, based on an iron rolling mill and forge to provide parts for the cotton spinning trade and other industries. Although the works closed a long time ago, today you can still trace their fascinating history in the carefully restored remains of the buildings, old railway lines, and other artefacts. Park Bridge Heritage Centre, once splendid stables, is now managed by Tameside's Countryside Service. here you can find out how wrought iron was made and what it was like to live and to work at Park Bridge. You can also see the changing countryside exhibitions, picnic in the landscaped ruins nearby, or join in on one of the many events we run throughout the year. Park Bridge is also an excellent starting point for countryside walks to Daisy nook, Hartshead Pike, Knott Hill Local Nature Reserve and beyond.
