Hop gardens require a high attention to detail in the growing months as they need to be checked often. The hop plant is perennial and grows back from the rootstock every year. Depending on the warmth of the Spring, this usually starts in early April when the first shoots start to emerge. During the previous month, the ‘stringing’ of hop gardens done by hand with the aid of a long pole called a ‘monkey’ up to 6 metres off the ground.
