InSight Mars lander testing. Technician preparing NASA's InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) lander for thermal vacuum testing in a clean room. InSight is designed for studying the deep interior of Mars and will be the first mission to permanently deploy instruments directly onto Martian ground using a robotic arm. The mission is planned for launch in March 2016, with its landing on Mars in September 2016. It will investigate the processes that formed and shaped Mars and its findings will help to improve understanding about the evolution of the inner solar system's rocky planets, including Earth.
