Lilies are plentiful enough to supply the trade. Gladioli are of fine quality and numerous, but asters have been poor. They sell fairly well, however, owing to the shortage of other flowers. As a whole, flowers are scarce, a condition attributed to the dry weather. Club Meeting. The members of the Tri-City Florists * Club left Davenport, Thursday, August 9, in a special car for Muscatine, on the invitation of Emil Kranz. There We're thirty-six members in the party, and it proved to be the most enjoyable trip ever taken by the club. Upon ar- rival at Muscatine the party was met' by Mr. Kranz and Mayor E. C. McNutt, who had automobiles waiting, and was taken for a tour of the Island, visiting the waterworks, greenhouses and other points of interest. On the return to the German Club house, Mr. and Mrs. Kranz invited the members of the club to par- take of supper. C. O. E. Boehm acted as toastmaster of the evening and intro- duced the various speakers with suitable remarks. Mayor McNutt was the first speaker and gave an address of wel- come. He was presented with a huge bouquet of gladioli from the Butter- worth Gardens, of Moline, by Arvid Anderson, president of the society, who was the next speaker. He was followed by Ludwig Stapp, Emil Kranz, William Knees, William Goos and C. J. Reardon. A vote of thanks was given Mr. and Mrs. Emil Kranz for the splendid sup- per and the good time.
