In May, 1399, Eichard crossed to Ireland, a countrywhich to his credit he tried to rule well. We have apleasant picture of him, now a man of thirty-three, saying farewell at Windsor to the childof ten to whom he was married, lifting herin his arms and kissing her again and absence opened the door to his foes.
