All in all, the Lincoln Literary Society is a good thing. It does not teacha boy the language of a lost race, or the history of the Old World and of theAmerica of yesterday. It enlarges his knowledge of the present history of theUnited States, a thing vastly more important, it seems to me, than all the Latinor Ancient History in the world. QTfje &tf)eman Utterarp g>octetj> On October 27, 1915, all the High School girls interested in the organiza-tion of a literary society were invited to attend the first meeting of a new society,held under the leadership of Misses Heitman and Idol. A large crowd responded to the invitation and after much consideration,Katherine Harman was chosen President and Violet Johnson other officers were also chosen and the organization was given the name,The Athenian Literary Society. Before Christmas we made a thorough study of Tennyson and receivedmuch good from each and every one of the meetings. The different phases ofhis life was first studied and then many of his shorter poems were taken up. Just before the holidays we were grieved to give up Miss Verta Idol, asa leader of the society, as well as a teacher in the High School. We succeededin securing another worthy leader in Miss Love, and the remaining term provedsuccessful under Misses Heitman and
