German V-1 and V-2 World War II rockets on display at the National Air & Space Museum, Washington DC. The V-1 (Vergeltungswaffe/Vengeance Weapon-1), known in England as the Doodlebug, was a rail-launched missile powered by an air-breathing pulse-jet engine. The V-2, originally known as the A-4, (black and white rocket) was a supersonic rocket that delivered its warheads to London and other European cities.
