Skutstjesilen is a sailing race between old sailing boats called skutsjes. The sport started when the sailors didn’t make a lot of profits. The owners of the market saw the sailing races as a good promotion for their market so they started to organize the races. The sailors could win a lot of money with the races. Until 1850 when the organisation for water sports was founded. Because of the organisation many sailors stopped sailing at the races. After the Second World War a few people putted Skutsjesilen back on the official list of sailing races. Now after 50 years it is more popular then ever before. Friesland is a province in the north of the Netherlands and part of the bigger region known as Frisia. Its name in the Frisian language is Fryslân,
