It, or benzoate of ammo-nium, is given internally indoses of fifteen grains in allcases of suppuration along the•urinary tract, especially ininflammation of the bladderwith decomposition of the urine. Barberry Other acids are neutralized in the blood, but it is excreted as hippuric acid and acidifies theurine. Bromides are salts of bromine. The bromides of potassium,sodium, strontium, and ammonium are used in medicine, thefirst being slightly more depressing and the last more stimu-lating than bromide of sodium. They act chiefly as paralyzersof the brain and sensory nerves, dulling the sense of due to mental labor and worry is better overcomeby bromides than by any other drugs, the dose being twentygrains or more at bedtime. Epilepsy and other nervous con-vulsive affections are treated by long courses of bromide.
