The site of St. Fintans old monastery is not known at jircsent in Doone,nor can the oldest inhabitant give any information as to where it stood, nor isits existence even remembered in any current pojjular trailition. However,about twentv vears ago, an old church stood just opposite to the MercyConvent, wiiich was then the dwelling of a former parish priest. This, it hasbeen supposed, must be the actual site of St. Fintans Church, but at presentlittle or no trace of the ruins appear. This very spot is now occupied by apotato garden.^. Convent Sclioois of St. Fintan, Doonc. The Rev. Father Hickey, late parish priest of Doone, and Rev. FatherODwyer, , had a great devotion for St. Fintan.^ When the parish churchwas built they desired to place it under his protection ; but, at the time it wasdedicated, they found it difficult to get any trustworthy information regardingthe saints biography. The Rev. Mr. Hickey left a provision for founding theSisters Convent of Mercy and Schools, with some land attached.^* The Christian Brothers Schools, to be placed under the invocation of of Dunbleische, will form a very attractive feature in this Rev.
