Tuberculosis diagnosis. Sputum (fluid coughed up from the lungs) samples on glass slides. These are to be stained and examined for the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacterium that causes tuberculosis (TB). TB usually infects the lung, and can cause severe scarring. It is treated with antibiotic drugs, usually taken under strict supervision by medical personnel. Photographed in St Peter's TB Hospital, Ethiopia.
