Bullet Ant, Paraponera clavata, carving up a katydid to take back to nest at the Cincinatti Zoo. Will feed to larvae.
Bullet ants are considered primitive ants, because they live together in colonies but forage individually. They are almost 1 inch long and aggressive. They forage for insects and nectar in forest canopy. There sting is widely considered the most painful in the insect world, causing intense pain and sometimes temporary paralysis.
