(3) Amaurosis, or complete blindness, occurs some-times in the absence of any apparent lesions of the eye,but probably is a sequel to retinitis, atrophy of the opticnerve, or diseases of the brain. It is known also as Black Cataract, presumably from the absence of whiteor other visible lesions. No pain is connected with thecondition, but prognosis is very grave, as only in therarest instances have dogs been known to recover theirsight after the onset of amaurosis. (4) Glaucoma, or dropsy of the anterior chamber; asecondary disease marked by intense intra-ocularpressure, and resulting in hardness of the eye, atrophyof the optic disc, and blindness.
