Navy Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Fuels) Airman Jared Kampschroeder fuels an F/A-18C Hornet aircraft assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 15 aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Bush (CVN 77) Oct. 14, 2014, in the Persian Gulf. The ship supported maritime security operations, strike operations in Iraq and Syria as directed, and theater security cooperation efforts in the 5th Fleet area of responsibility. President Barack Obama authorized humanitarian aid deliveries to Iraq as well as targeted airstrikes to protect personnel from extremists known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. Central Command directed the operations.
