Australopithecus 'Karabo' skull and head. Illustration of the skull and appearance of the head of the extinct hominin Australopithecus sediba. This is the holotype specimen MH1, called 'Karabo'. Malapa Hominin 1 (MH1) is one of two of the most complete fossil skeletons found of Australopithecus sediba. A. sediba is one of a number of species that form part of the early human evolutionary tree. The fossils date from around million years ago in the early Pleistocene. They were found from August 2008 at Malapa Cave in South Africa, with the skull of MH1 discovered in March 2009. MH1 is a juvenile male.
