Detached Bell Tower, Church of Saint Oswald. Kirkoswald, Cumbria, England, United Kingdom, Europe.

It is probable that there has been a bell tower on the hill above the church for as long as the church has stood at the foot of it because the ringing of bells at the church would not have been heard in the village. However, there is no record of a tower before the 18th. Century, when a small lime-washed building was built on the foundations of an older one, in 1743. The present building dates from 1893 and the original weathervane, with the date 1743, was reinstalled on the new building.
