HANDLING OF TRAINMEN BY THE SANANTONIO TRACTION COMPANY As soon as a trainman has been employed by the SanAntonio Traction Company he is given a number and anenvelope of heavy manila paper is made out for him. Inthis envelope is afterwards put all his application and otherblanks and all written reports turned in against him, news-. After the trainmanis accepted he is put on a car with a competent motormanor conductor and kept on this run until he is pronouncedcompetent. He then gets one day of service on each ofthe other lines of the system. Three inspectors ride the cars and make reports direct inspectors reports concerning the trainmen are made onspecial blanks which are afterward kept in the trainmansrecord envelope in the superintendents office. Fort Sam Houston, at which several regiments of UnitedStates troops are kept, is located at San Antonio, and therailway company receives many applications for positionsfrom discharged soldiers.
