While it is certain in action, and givesa parallel slot, and is free from trouble to a certain extent, Ido not entirely agree with the statement made by users of thisshutter that it is more convenient in use and that the adjustableslot is a source of trouble. Possibly in the case of a verycheaply made and poorly designed curtain shutter, there mightbe trouble, due to faulty workmanship, but not to inherentfaults in the design. The better class of adjustable slot shutters are absolutelyfree from trouble, and in many ways are more convenient thanthe fixed slot. There is this to be said anent the fixed slot instru-ment, such as the Pressman, lea Popular, Graflex, and some ofthe cheaper types of foreign cameras, that the mechanism isso simple that in case of trouble, on a camping trip, it wouldprobably be possible to repair or adjust same with less skillthan would be required for such a shutter as the Ensign, orThornton-Pickard, so that for an explorer there might be someadvantage in the fixed slot.
