True, these are fantastic thoughts, whichcame to me after my work was finished; only I tell you this aboutthe Finale, that I thought it as the good-bye of Spring. (It may here be noted that the symphony was fully sketched infour days, and that Schumann now speaks of composing the workin February, 1841, and now of writing it towards the end of thatyear.)
