Over 400 runners compete against 65 horses in the Man V Horse 23 mile marathon, over gruelling mountainous event was conceived by Gordon Green at his pub the Neuadd Arms in 1980 upon overhearing a discussion whether a man was equal to a horse running cross country over distance. The cash prize for beating a horse was increased each year by £1,000 until Huw Lobb won £25,000 in 2004 beating the first horse by 2 mins with a time of 2:05:19. Credit: Graham M.
