The 'Pyramide' in Vienne, southern France. Known as the 'spina', this monument marked the centre of the Roman circus where chariots races took place.

The 'Spina' stood on a long thin platform in the middle of the Roman circus, around which chariots would race. It is the only remnant of Vienne's Roman circus that survives. Chariot races and other spectacles would have been staged here. Very few spinas have survived from the Roman period - the most famous example is in Istabul.
