These women, who are also commis-sioners, are proud of the fact that they are the first feminine (44 7 444 womans department. officials ever commissioned by Congress. It Is said that there wasnever before a building set apart at a Worlds Exposition for thedisplay of womans work exclusively. When the time came to prepare for the construction of the. MRS. POTIKK. l^Ai^MliR. Womans Building, a large prize was offered to be awarded for thesuccessful design in competition. Fourteen women architects, notone of them more than twenty-five years of age, submitted designsfor the structure to the scrutiny of the Board of Architects of the womans department. 445 Exposition, and that of Miss Sophia G.
