They will not endure stagnant moisture at the roots, how- ever, especially in winter, and a dry situation on banks or in the rockery is, therefore, suitable for their best growth, and they thrive in a sandy or rocky limestone soil. Hardy Cacti are also remark- ably free from disease and insect pests, and we predict for them a permanent and important place in garden architecture. We offer some of the best species known.
