The Army Camp at Rijen. Established in 1815, the United Kingdom of the Netherlands was destined to be short lived. In 1830 a revolt in Brussels broke out and led to the founding of the independent state of Belgium. King William I refused to accept this. In the summer of 1831, he gathered Dutch troops in this army camp at Rijen, close to the Belgian border, and prepared a campaign against the Belgians.
