Park Mill at Bateman's, Rudyard Kipling's home from 1902 - 1936. The mill and its pond (seen here from the Public Footpath that runs alondside) have recently undergone extensive renovations programmes. The mill is fed by water from the River Dudwell. The mill has figured in a number of Kipling's stories. It is believed there has been a mill on the site since the 13th century. The present one dates from about 1750. Kipling has a turbine installed to supply electricity to Bateman's - enough to run 10 lightbulbs in the house for 4 hours!
