He had acquired the friendship andconfidence of both those officers. For several years he keptup a correspondence with the former, and received from hima copy of a medal struck in commemoration of the capture ofPorto Bello by Admiral Vernon. This was preserved atMount Yernon until Washingtons death, and is probably inpossession of some member of the family.
