Resting on this sill at the corners arecast-iron pockets for the 3 x 4-inch endbraces, the pockets having a flange whichextends up on the inside face of corner. As the illustrations show, there is asub-sill, s inches deep and yYi, incheswide, on top of the sills and resting oneinch on the outside sills; it is rabbetedon the underside 2 inches, leaving abeveled lip on the inner face to lap overthe flooring, and is secured at the cross-ing of each long sill by a f^-inch boltwith cast washers. This is the timber on posts, to which they are secured by a5^-inch bolt with the head let in flushunder the sheathing; the pockets are alsosecured to the sub-sill by a ^-inch bolt;the whole forming an angle iron stifTenerat the corner, in addition to its functionas a pocket for the end brace. The end intermediate posts are of acomposite character, made up of 4-inch,7-pound I-beams, to which are secured3 X 4-inch
