In 1847 he married Caroline A., daughter of the lateRobert Blackwell, a prominent merchant of New York,and a granddaughter of James Blackwell, formerlyowner of Blackwells Island, which takes its name fromhim. Their family consists of five sons and threedaughters, the hand of Death having up to this timebeen mercifully withheld from this family circle; and,although now somewhat scattered, all still bear with themthe most charming memories of and cling with the fond-est affection to Massapequa, their happy island
