Combsof every date, from the Roman and Anglo-Saxon period, and earlier, are found in Britishgraves. In short, from the time when the firstprehistoric carvings of antediluvian animalswere made to the present, every age of humancivilization appears to be more or less fullyillustrated in carvings upon ivory and bone.(See also Chessmen.)
