Floss-silk tree (Chorisia speciosa). This is a thorny flowering tree native to South America but cultivated as an ornamental in other regions. It grows to a height of about 15 metres, and its large pink flowers (not seen) yield a vegetable silk used in upholstery. The trunk is notable for being covered in numerous spines.
