Close-up of copper smelted from copper oxide. Add equal parts of copper oxide and charcoal granules to a boiling tube. Using a Bunsen burner heat the tube strongly for 5 minutes and then allow to cool. Small granules of red copper can be seen. Smelting is a chemical reduction of an oxide of a metal with carbon in a furnace.
