We have had several of thesemachines in operation for the past yearand very satisfactory results have beenattained. Geo. M. Curran, N. y., O. & W. Ry. Middletown, N. V. The Air Brake Repcur Department of the Chicago & Alton Ry. at Bloomington, 111. Lack of space prevents a thorough description of the Altons air brake. this recently installed department, E. Fuller, Supt. M. P. and Mr. G. , M. M. Nevertheless a partialdescription will perhaps show the bene-fits of a complete department as com-pared to the usual shop corner allowedfor air brake repairs. The exterior view of the buildingwould not attract particular attention, resembling, as it does, any ordinaryshop or manufacturing building, but itpossesses extraordinary advantages foran air brake building. Its entire sep-aration from the noise, dust and dirt ofthe main shop; its numerous windowsand ventilator skylights, and its near-ness to the tool room, machine shopand storehouse make it equal and sur-passing many similar departments. Theinterior of the building is nicely white-washed throughout the upper structureand on the side walls, excepting therear wall, upon w^hich are located thestores, lockers and pump testing rackin black and brown colors. The heating arrangement is nicely hose storage rack built of l-in. pipe, reaching upwards
